End of season build-up: Interesting things and boring things
Let's get the boring things out of the way first. Of course, no one is even slightly interested in the FA Cup Semi Finals. They could have only been more boring if Liverpool had replaced Everton in the second semi final. The only interesting exercise would be to do the sort of thing that one used to do in ones earlier years (OK, two years ago) and from the semi final participants pick a Most Irritating XI v the Least Irritating XI. You can then make some rules to decide which team would win on the day. It could take a long while - the competition for the Most Irritating XI would mean some tough choices. Try it.
Fortunately, there is far more to keep us on the edge of our seats - even in the Premiership! He may look an idiot in his cap, but Tony Pulis has almost ensured that Stoke City play in the top flight next year. Similarly, the Portsmouth faithful may be thinking that they managed to get rid of Tony Adams just in time and thankful that Nwanko stuck an important goal away. One of the more interesting events of the day happened in the Championship at Charlton Athletic where Charlton's Darren Ward, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, was promoted and relegated on the same day.
In Division 2, Leicester City confirmed their promotion whilst Peterborough look set for a (single) season in the Championship. At the other end, bad news for the west country as Cheltenham Town and Hereford United look set to be appearing in Division 2.
But lower down, there were was a lot to follow. AFC Wimbledon bounced back from their Easter Monday woes to scrape a point at Hampton & Richmond thanks to a late goal. Barring silly scores, they will be in the Blue Square Premier next season. Burton Albion continued to throw away their huge lead at the top of the Blue Square and delay further their progress to Division 2. They lost 1-0 at home to Oxford United, meaning they need a point at play-off hopefuls, Torquay United, on the last day of the season to be certain of going up.
And the FA Cup Final? Yes, it will be tough to pick a Most Irritating XI from that lot.

I predicted 8 weeks ago that Burton Albion would blow it and CUFC (Ed: Cambridge United FC) would take the title. Can I claim some sort of prediction of the year from football cynic? My other prediction was that Chelsea would have another manager before the end of the season. Not so good. Anyhow watch this space when CUFC take the title and return to the Football League - where they should be. (FootballCynic writes: Regrettably,we only have a worst prediction of the year award and you are currently in pole position. If there was an award for the best prediction, FootballCynic would be in the lead, of course, with his prediction that Everton and Chelsea would contest the FA Cup Final - his prediction for the result will follow in June.)

You are right about one thing Pulis looks a bit of dick with his cap but looks a highly respectable man with it off - a gynaecologist or something. (FootballCynic writes: Harry Potter, indeed - a Stoke City fan, I take it)

Stoke are staying up! Now we can laugh at Newcastle under Lyme and upon Tyne. (FootballCynic writes: Come on, don't be harsh on Newcastle United. They've done well given the managers they have had.)
