Rhyl FC in near death experience

It's that fascinating time of the year when Round 1 of the Inter Toto takes place. As any average O level Latin student would know, Inter Toto means 'between death'. And, what an appropriate name for the tournament devised to fill in those long summer months when there is nothing else to watch except European nations playing in an inconsequential tournament and the likes of Derry City and Drogheda United performing in the Eircomm League Premier Division.

The first round of the Inter Toto has thrown up some mouthwatering clashes and once again gives all the chances to guess the nationality of unpronouncable teams. FK Ekranas face Trans Narva (Latin translation: across irritations) in a battle between the Lithuanian and Estonian giants. Other interesting games include the game between two Shakespearean witches, Nitra v Neftchi, while Ethnikos Achnas (literal translation itchiness in the backside) play Besa. The list goes on as you would be forgiven for thinking that Etzella Ettelbruck was a character from a novel, whereas, in fact, she is, I mean, they are playing Lokomotiv Tbilisi.

Nearer to home, Rhyl had a nightmare start with a 5-1 defeat in their first leg match at Bohemians. It looks an early death for them in the Inter Toto. It may save them a trip to Grbalj, a team whose name really doesn't roll off the tongue. Below, Grbalj striker, Dragan Boskovic, demonstrates why they are in a different class to Rhyl.
