The "Victory for football" Cup Final

Well, FootballCynic doesn't like to say 'Well, I told you so", but the FA Cup Final ended as predicted (see http://footballcynic.com/2008/04/11/cardiff-for-the-cup.aspx. However, who was ready for the avalanche of comments about it being a 'victory of football' and 'the people's final'? Now, FootballCynic was relieved as anyone that the final wasn't between two of the big four, but it was hardly a classic as Portsmouth with a bit more savvy than a plucky Cardiff City sneaked home. We are treated to the following information thanks partly to the BBC:
  • Arrests in Portsmouth were the same as normal for a Saturday night (in other words, a lot)
  • Cardiff City fans stayed after the game (well, they locked the gates)
  • The Cardiff City players applauded Portsmouth's players as they received their medal
  • No one cared which National Anthem was played. Most of the Portsmouth team had never heard the British (or is that English) National Anthem before.
  • 'Portsmouth' was engraved on a plate for the Cup 10 minutes before the final whistle. FootballCynic could have made it less of a rush if the FA had read this website
  • "It's fantastic to see two teams from single team cities".
The best bit of Radio 5's commentary was Graham Taylor banging on the window of the commentary box to attract the attention of his old mate, David James, as he received his medal. David suitably ignored the former England supremo.
