FA respond quickly to Wenger's ideas
The FA has responded quickly to Arsene Wenger's thoughts on how statistics prove which is the better team. In a new initiative led by Manchester United, it has been suggested that games could be decided on the value of the squads. As one FA official explained "This would avert the need for games to actually take place and minimise the escalating policing costs". It would mean that Chelsea's match with Derby could assessed by a panel as £300 million versus £20 million. Using the Duckworth Lewis method, a result of 6-0 would be declared by an independent panel. Some are worried that the FA Cup competition would lose some of its charm as Liverpool would be able to name its third string team to beat the likes of Havant & Waterlooville.
